Free beat cut planner

Estimate your song's tempo and get a timed shot list with cuts on the beat, ready for any video editor.

How it works

  1. Choose a song. Your browser estimates its tempo and finds a strong starting beat.
  2. Pick how often the picture should change: every 1, 2, 4 or 8 bars.
  3. Read the start and end time of every shot, or download them as a spreadsheet.

Questions

Is my song uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the file on your device, and nothing is sent to Vidsou. You don't need an account, and no AI is involved.

How accurate is the tempo?

It is an estimate, so check it by ear. Songs with a changing tempo, or with no clear beat, are harder to read. If the number feels twice or half as fast as the song, use the half speed or double speed button.

Does every cut land on the first beat of a bar?

Not always. The tool finds a strong beat and counts four beats to a bar from there, but it can't tell which beat starts the bar. Your cuts follow the beat, and you may want to shift them by a beat or two. A song in 3/4 or 6/8 won't fit the four-beat count.

How often should I cut?

A common starting point is every 2 bars in a chorus or drop and every 4 to 8 bars in quiet parts. Our guide on how many shots a music video needs works through examples.

What do I do with the plan?

Download the CSV and use it as a cut list in any video editor. Or upload the song to Vidsou, which plans the shots, makes the pictures and does the edit for you.

Would rather not edit it yourself?

Vidsou turns your song into a finished music video, cut to the beat. See every shot before you pay: your first 3 shot lists are free. A music video costs 1,000 to 5,200 credits, depending on the number of shots. Available in most of the US.
