Location data
IP Geolocation by DB-IP. Vidsou uses the DB-IP "IP to City Lite" database, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, on its own servers to estimate a visitor's country and US state, so that features are offered only where they are available. It is never used to locate a household or person. The location lookup runs on Vidsou's own servers. We do not send your IP address to DB-IP or another geolocation service to perform that lookup.
MP3 encoder (LAME)
When you upload a large uncompressed song (WAV, FLAC or AIFF, 12 MB or more), it is first converted to MP3 in your browser by the LAME MP3 encoder (version 3.100), compiled to WebAssembly by wasm-media-encoders 0.7.0 (MIT licence) and delivered unmodified inside the page's JavaScript. LAME is free software licensed under the GNU Library General Public License, version 2 (LGPL); its full licence text is here. The exact LAME source code used in this encoder is available here as lame-3.100-source.tar.gz, together with the build scripts that turn it into the WebAssembly file (checksums: SHA256SUMS.txt; also at lame.sourceforge.io). You may replace the encoder with your own build of LAME under the terms of the LGPL. If you would like a copy of the corresponding source code, write to hello@vidsou.com and we will send it to you free of charge.
Server software
Videos and audio are processed on our own servers with FFmpeg (the unmodified Debian 12 package, which is licensed under the GNU General Public License and includes libx264 and LAME) and, for pitch correction, the Autotalent plug-in (GPL). These programs run only on our servers; they are not copied or sent to you. Their source code is available from the linked projects and from Debian.
Open-source software
Vidsou is built with open-source software. We thank its authors. Each package is used under its own licence, listed below; the full licence texts are available at each project's page. LGPL-licensed components (libvips, used through sharp for image processing) are used unmodified; their source code is available from the linked project.
